The Real Investment Opportunities Club (The RIO Club) is a private investment club conceived in 1994 and founded in February 1995. The Club name "RIO" was derived from an anagram of ROI (return on investment). During its inception considerable time was spent selecting a name that would give investors a clear indication that this venture would likely become a lifelong activity, as continuing expansion has since borne out.

Procrastination could be your biggest mistake in today's world

When it comes to investing and building a nest egg for the future, many people procrastinate..

However procrastination, however, is the biggest mistake they can make. Considering the uncertain future of the Social Security system in Europe, the USA and the UK, we may all be totally responsible for our own financial futures with no help from the government. It used to be that when we retired we had just a few years left to live. That is not the case anymore. In this era of constant medical advances our retirements can now stretch to 20 years or more! Without having a substantial retirement fund, we may have to live those years extremely frugally or choose to continue working well beyond the age of 65. But there is no reason why we should not be able to stop working or why our lifestyles should have to be diminished when we retire. The key is to plan ahead. That means it is imperative to begin investing immediately if we want to maintain a comfortable lifestyle in our retirement years.

In fact, when it comes to risk, not attempting to invest your money may be the riskiest choice you can make. Therefore, many take the easy way out and put their money in certificates of deposit or money market accounts because they are simple and safe. However, when the deteriorating effects of inflation and the rising cost of living are factored in, these low interest rate investments actually reduce our future spending power.

One benefit of being a member is that you can talk with our members, after a five or six years most members become fairly avid investors. An interesting fact is that only 2 out of 10 new investment club members own a personal investment portfolio. After ten years of Club membership, 9 out of 10 members have started their own personal investment portfolios which inevitably leads to financial well being.

The RIO Club members become comfortable with investing, they are free from the intimidation and persistent badgering of commission based investment brokers. The RIO Club does not promote or solicit investment we circulate reports for information and education only it's simply a private view point of the author.

The material contained in club reports are the updates which are provided periodically for informational and discussion purposes between members only maybe be hypothetical. Nothing herein constitutes investment, legal, accounting or tax advice, or a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any security. No recommendation or advice is being given as to whether any investment is suitable for a particular member. It should not be assumed that any investments in securities, companies, sectors or markets identified and or discussed with membership or described were or will be profitable. All information is current as of the date of herein and is subject to change without notice. Any views or opinions expressed may not reflect those of the club as a whole. RIO are not acting as a licensed securities dealer, broker or investment adviser or an investment company.

The many returns are from hypothetical portfolios consisting of stocks, metals and or currencies were rebalanced monthly (see additional details regarding rebalancing below) with zero transaction costs. These are not the returns of actual portfolios of stocks. The system returns are computed monthly based on the beginning of the month and end of the month stock prices plus any dividends received during that particular month. A simple, weighted average return of all stocks hypothetically held is calculated to determine the monthly return. The monthly returns are then compounded to arrive at the annual return. I underline stocks highlighted or included in our reports and example portfolios valuations of same are done at the beginning of each month are included in the return calculations. All stocks values can, and often do, change throughout the month.
